Calahonda is situated between Fuengirola and Marbella and is an ideal base for visiting all the major attractions of the Costa del Sol.
The journey from Malaga airport takes approximately 25 minutes by car.
The municipality of Mijas, to which Calahonda belongs, is devoted to villas, townhouses, apartments and golf-courses together with other sporting facilities such as tennis clubs and fitness centres. Bars, shops, restaurants, supermarkets and banks are all within walking distance. Also, the beach is within walking distance and the popular resorts of La Cala and Cabopino are a 5 minute drive away.
The many restaurants in Calahonda offer a choice of Chinese, Thai, Indian, Swiss, Italian, German, Spanish and English cuisine.
There is a bus service which runs from Fuengirola to Marbella and also a local taxi rank. Car-hire can be booked in the location and there is a travel agency which books tours to well-known tourist resorts of Seville, Cordoba, Granada and Gibraltar.
Calahonda is mainly made-up of privately owned apartments, villas and townhouses and is therefore very well catered for. There are threee comercial centres within a small radius: - El Zoco (the flea market), El Olivo (the olive) and Los Cipreses (the cyprus trees). These contain furniture shops, chemists, hardware stores, banks, supermarkets, bars and restaurants, a travel agency and car-hire and even a garden centre.
The beach at Calahonda stretches for miles along the coast (know as Mijas Costa) and there are several beach bars which cater for the whole family. A pleasant walk along the beach in one direction takes you to the small port of Cabopino where you can enjoy watersports and is a haven for boat and fishing enthusiasts and in the other direction, the village of La Cala with its quaint shops and waterfront promenade.

El Oceano Beach Hotel
This is a boutique spa hotel with a perfect ocean front setting in Mijas Costa (in between Calahonda and La Cala). Recommended for special occasions. Open every day for lunch and dinner. Great atmosphere. Plenty of fine wine and ocassional entertainment.
Guiseppe's
This Italian restaurant is at the port picturesque port of Cabopino. Extensive menu includes fresh fish, pasta, pizzas. Good value dining. Popular with families.
Vista del Mar
This is found beachside at Miralflores. Stunning ocean views and regular evening entertainment including BBQ evenings, cabaret, hog roast evening and dine and dance.
El Porton
This grill and restaurant serves high quality Belgium and French cuisine with fine wines. Situated in La Cala de Mijas.
Mijas Playa
Trendy restaurant in a lovely location overlooking the sea in La Cala de Mijas. Regular entertainment. Popular with couples and recommended for special occasions.
El Fogon
Serves Argentinian, Brazilian, South American and Mediterranean cuisine. Roadside in La Cala de Mijas next to La Noria golf course. Easy parking. Function room used for all types of entertainment. Open for lunch and dinner.
El Olivo
Situated in El Zoco Commercial Centre in Calahonda. Serves delicious fresh meat and fish dishes with regular specialties such as suckling pig. Good wines and excellent service.
Da Bruno's
Very popular Italian restaurant situated roadside in Cabopino near the campsite. Has inside dining or large outside terrace. Gets very busy in Summer.
Curry Crazy
Located in El Zoco Commercial Centre in Calahonda next to the Trafalgar Bar. Serves tasty curry dishes. Also offers a take-away and delivery service.
Max Beach
Belgium cooking. Varied menu. Located at Riviera del Sol with excellent position overlooking the sea.
Miraflores Golf Restaurant
Enjoys excellent views over the golf course. Music several evenings per week. Opens for breakfast, lunch, light snacks and evening dinner. Also Sunday carvery.
