Mijas Pueblo

The beautiful, little white mountain village of Mijas lies 428 metres above sea-level.

There are viewpoints at several locations in the village where you can take panoramic pictures of Mijas Costa.

The narrow cobbled streets are lined with gift and craft shops selling paintings, leather goods, ceramics, tapestries and hand-made soaps and jewellery.

Mijas pueblo is very popular with tourists- especially during the Summer months when lots of coach trips arrive from all parts of Costa del Sol.

Mijas pueblo is famous for its donkey taxis and visitors can take a ride around the village on a donkey or in one of the horse-drawn carriages.

Each May the Town Hall organises an International Day and visitors can sample food and drink from stalls represented by many different countries. You can watch dance shows or listen to music from many of the live performances.

The annual Mijas fair is celebrated in September and the entire village concentrates on having fun. There is lots of flamenco dancing and, of course, plenty of eating and drinking.

Of the 7,500 population of Mijas pueblo, there is now a large number of foreign and English speaking residents living in and around the village and even more living along the 12km stretch of coastline of Mijas Costa.

When you consider the beautiful Mediterranean climate and you wander round this pretty village bedecked with flowering plants and colourful geraniums, you can understand what attracted foreigners to settle here over the years.
